The Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 goes to...

QuoLux is delighted to announce, as proud sponsors of the award, that the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award has been given jointly to two leaders, Chairman, Bob Holt and CEO, David Miles of Mears Group, who together had the vision, entrepreneurial spirit and leadership to buy a small business and grow it into one of the county’s largest firms.

In 1996, they spotted an opportunity to buy a Gloucester business which at that time had a turnover of £6m and employed 80 staff. Together, they have grown it to over £940m.

One of their first visionary actions was to ‘list’ the company on the Stock Exchange – unheralded at that time for the size of company – using the funding to drive a strategy of organic growth and acquisitions.

They now employ 16,000 people across the UK and 350 in their Gloucester HQ. They are committed to the development of their staff with 2 in-house academies, their own leadership programme and they work with over 400 apprentices. The company holds annual fun days for between 7,000 and 10,000 staff and their families and encourage much charity work nationally and abroad.

The Centaur at the racecourse in Cheltenham was transformed into a glittering ballroom for over 800 guests at the Gloucestershire Business Awards last night, hosted by Gloucestershire Live, with a pre-dinner performance of impressive acrobatics and limbo skills to kick off the special 20th Anniversary of the Awards in the county (I wonder how many people attempted to recreate the moves by the end of the evening...)

Whilst Bob and David were unable to collect their awards in person, John Charlton from Mears Group was there to receive them from QuoLux director, Jo Draper.

Congratulations to Bob and David from the 2017 Gloucestershire Business Awards Judge’s Panel and the county’s business community on their well-deserved recognition, and congratulations to all the winners and finalists of the evening. Gloucestershire is truly great.
