One of the highlights of this year's GloucestershireLive Business Awards was our presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mike Warner, Chairman of Warners Cars and a visionary leader who has lived and worked in Gloucestershire for almost all of his life and who has made a huge contribution to the business community over the last 5 decades.

This was the 6th consecutive year that QuoLux™ have sponsored and proudly presented this Award to a local business person who has made a lasting contribution to the county through their leadership, vision and long-term business success.

Mike’s grandfather, Harold Warner and his brother Cecil first set up business in 1920 dealing with tractor repairs but the business soon grew to encompass car repairs, petrol supplies and bus services.  Having completed an HND in engineering in London, Mike took control of the car repair side of the business in 1968 and moved it to Tewkesbury where he grew it to be one of the largest independent motor dealers in the county.

The Warner Group now has 300 employees in the food, retail and motor industries, with Mike in turn having supported his son, Guy Warner, who set up the Warners Budgens stores in 2006, growing them to a £20million turnover in 2017/18.

This year's deserved winner also gives back to the community and supports many local organisations, having been a director of Gloucester Rugby, as well as being the Chair of the Malvern Spring Show & Chair of the Three Counties Agricultural Society for the past ten years. Mike also champions the Gloucestershire business community as a board member of the GFirst LEP.

Previous recipients we have presented the award to are Sir David McMurtry and John Deer, co-founders of Renishaw Plc; Julian Dunkerton, co-founder of Superdry; Steve Evans, founder and Chairman of Clarkson Evans; Bob Holt OBE and David Miles, former Chairman and Chief Executive of Mears Group; and David Bellamy, former Chief Executive of St James's Place in Cirencester.

Congratulations Mike, it was an absolute pleasure to present you with this award, and thank you for all your contributions to making Gloucestershire great!
